It also consumes your Mac’s resources, of course. However, I’m not sure if this doesn’t defeat the purpose of having thumbnails visible, however, because it gets very confusing as to what app is where in the listing.

These zillion windows can be all the same app - perhaps 14 empty TextEdit documents, as an example - or they can be different apps. You then can put your iPhone or iPad down and ignore it.Įven more oddly, if you have LOTS of windows switched to full-screen - as in around 14 - then Mission Control will switch back to showing thumbnails. One way to do this easily and fuss-free would be to use an app like Duet to create a separate desktop on your iPhone or iPad, and run any app full-screen on it (it obviously doesn’t matter which).

Rather oddly, if you have an external monitor attached AND you’re running an app full screen on that monitor, then the thumbnail bar will always appear whenever you enter Mission Control. Now bash your mouse into the top left or right corner of the screen, and Mission Control will activate complete with thumbnails on view.

In El Cap, Mission Control will start when you click and drag any window into the top of the screen.

Software solution to noise problems such as those caused by iMac HDD replacement, or overheating problems like those found on a MacBook. Control when your computer should cool down. Macs Fan Control allows you to monitor and control almost any aspect of your computer’s fans, with support for controlling fan speed, temperature sensors pane, menu-bar icon, and autostart with system option. I can’t offer a full fix for this problem but there are a few tricks that you can try to work into your workflow. Well, you can control it and establish a minimum speed to make the temperature drop thanks to an app called smcFanControl for Mac, that comes along with excellent options and that you can run on different versions of macOS, including El Capitan or Sierra. See the screenshot below for an example showing Yosemite vs El Cap:

Previously in OS X the thumbnail list was always visible. Instead you get a horizontal text listing of the apps/desktops. Lots of people are complaining that, in OS X El Capitan, Mission Control doesn’t show thumbnails of fullscreen apps and/or desktops along the top of the screen unless you place the mouse cursor there, in which case they slide into view. On my iMac, where I do most of my work, I have a couple more spaces, for apps like Evernote and Todoist, and a space for my calendar app (Fantastical), which, while not in full-screen mode, is large enough to fill my display, making it easy to see my appointments and tasks.Restoring thumbnails to Mission Control in OS X El Capitan (You can set a different desktop background to each space.)

I also keep an empty space with a white desktop background for when I need to take screenshots of windows without anything distracting behind them. If I need to work with other apps, I add them to other spaces. When I’m writing, I have whichever app I’m using for writing-today it’s iA Writer-open as well. The second desktop has Tweetbot, my Twitter client. For example, the first Desktop has a Finder window and Safari. In order to ensure that I can work efficiently and without interruption, I have set up my apps in different spaces. The Dock, which is normally hidden on my display, also slides out from the side when I activate Mission Control. (When you activate Mission Control to see spaces, you’ll first only see the names of the desktops in the top row slide your cursor to the top of your display to see thumbnails of each of the spaces, as in the screenshot above.) iTunes gets a named space because it’s in full-screen mode (choose View > Enter Full Screen to activate this). It is fully compatible with macOS 12 Monterey, all the way back to 10.11 El Capitan. It also has a separate secure service for fan control, only HTTPS/SSL connections and built-in support for the Internet Access Policy (when using Little Snitch).

As you can see, I have four Desktops, or spaces, and iTunes is labeled as being in its own space. TG Pro is notarized by Apple and uses the Hardened Runtime.
